During an interview with Today Show reporter Jeff Rosen, Sheen was questioned as to the last time he indulged in narcotics.
"Don't remember. Don't care. Drug tests don't lie," he retorted.
The actor went on to admit that a January hospitalisation that might have been linked to substance abuse was a low point, but he hesitated to brand his behaviour as "out of control".
"I don't know if I'd call it out of control, but the choices I was making weren't leading to the choice I wanted," he said. "I woke up and thought, 'You're 45 years old with five kids. Let's do something different'. I got bored."
Sheen also claimed that he has cured any issues he once had with addiction, adding: "I will not believe that if I do something [wrong] I have to follow a certain path... Fools... allowed defeat to be an option. I will not."
The star, who classified his recent verbal attack on Two and a Half Men creator Chuck Lorre as "violent love", further asserted that he plans to up his asking price during forthcoming negotiations to return to the sitcom, which halted production last week.
"Come Wednesday morning… they're going to rename [the studio] Charlie Brothers and not Warner Brothers... At this point, it's $3m an episode, take it or leave it... Defeat is not an option," he said.
Despite a recent thrush of media criticism, Sheen insisted that he doesn't concern himself with any negative comments made about his lifestyle.
He explained: "If people think I'm insane or if they don't think what I'm saying is true, I have no interest in their retarded opinions... I'm going to live my life the way I want and I'm going to win every moment!"
