Elton John 'missed son at party'

Sir Elton John has revealed that he wished he could have snuck away from his Oscars party yesterday to say goodnight to his 2-month-old son.

The singer, who holds the Academy Awards viewing party once a year to raise money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation, said that he and his partner David Furnish were both upset about leaving their son Zachary at home.

When asked if he wanted to leave early, John commented: "I wish we could but we can't. He might be coming down to visit us and say goodnight."

During the event, the 63-year-old sang with Florence Welch from band Florence and the Machine, and described her as an "amazing" girl.

He said of Welch: "She's amazing, a great girl, so full of life. I love her, she's such a great singer and I'm mesmerised by her."
