The tennis star received emergency care for a hematoma that developed as a result of a pulmonary embolism earlier this week.
"Thank you everyone for all of your prayers, concerns and support," she told US Weekly in a statement.
"This has been extremely hard, scary and disappointing. I am doing better now and working with my doctors to keep everything under control."
Williams has been released from hospital and is recovering "under strict medical supervision" at home, according to her rep.
