The actor joined the social networking community on Tuesday, and his feed is currently followed by just under 1.2 million people.
In a message posted yesterday, he wrote: "In all sincerity... Thank you Twitter community for the warm reception & the followers that helped get me to 1M in 24 hours!!! #teamsheen (sic)."
Sheen, who has reportedly been approached for a cameo role in The Hangover Part II, is currently following just 22 people including Alyssa Milano, Piers Morgan, Sarah Silverman and Howard Stern.
He has been a headline fixture over the past week because of various reports about his private life and the decision to shut down production on his sitcom Two and a Half Men after his public outburst against its creator Chuck Lorre.
