Ali, who lives in the Garib Nagar slum in Mumbai, India, was forced to evacuate her house after a fire began in the crowded slum, injuring 21 people and costing 2,000 people their homes.
"We just grabbed what we could and dashed out," Ali's father told MSN News. "The fire spread so fast we couldn't get back in."
The actress said that the fire destroyed all the awards and newspaper clippings she had saved from her role in the Academy Award-winning 2008 film.
"It's all gone, even my best clothes, everything," Ali added.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire, while Ali and her family are now waiting to move into a new apartment paid for by Slumdog director Danny Boyle.
