The Underbelly actor, who was rushed to hospital with stomach pains following a court appearance for breaching an AVO last week, was reportedly "medicated" for an inflammation and was then allowed to return to the Northside West Clinic.
Newton's lawyer Chris Murphy wrote on Twitter: "Doctors believe that the stress of recent events is having a damaging effect on Matt Newton's health. Please respect his clinical privacy."
According to The Daily Telegraph, the star had an x-ray at Westmead Hospital and doctors wanted to keep him in for observation, but Newton feared for his safety and asked to return to rehab.
Newton has been in and out of the Sydney clinic since allegedly attacking ex-girlfriend Rachael Taylor during a holiday in Rome last year.
