The Oscar-winning actress and her partner, WWE star David Otunga, became parents for the first time in August 2009.
In an interview with Essence magazine, Hudson vowed that she will provide her child David Jr with love and guidance as he continues to grow.
"My wish is to be at least half as good as my mother was, as patient and as loving as she was, and to just give that to my son," she said.
After giving birth, the star reportedly dropped more than 80lbs, which she claimed had changed her relationship with Otunga for the better.
Hudson further revealed that she's been surprised by the public reaction to her recent weight loss.
"I didn't realise that so many people were watching me or that so many people were interested," she added. "Now people come up to me saying, 'You've inspired me', and I'm like, 'Wow'."
Hudson will next appear on screen portraying Winnie Mandela in a biopic based on the South African politician's life.
