The comedian's Portrait 5, Stephen(s) was auctioned off on Tuesday to benefit childhood education and school arts projects, reports Reuters.
Colbert was on hand at auction house Phillips de Pury & Company to help raise bids for the piece.
"I am honoured to be sold in the prestigious manner usually reserved for foreclosed homes and champion hogs," the Colbert Report star previously said about the auction.
Artists Frank Stella, Andres Serrano and Shepard Fairey painted over parts of the portrait, which depicts Colbert saluting in front of several more images of himself.
"We're doing this for children. If you're not raising your paddle it means you hate children," he told auction attendees.
Colbert offered to personally hang the portrait during the bidding.
The image appeared in a December episode of The Colbert Report during Colbert's interview with Steve Martin.
