Bertinelli 'angry on engagement night'

Valerie Bertinelli has confessed that she was not in a good mood on the night her now-husband Tom Vitale proposed to her.

During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the Hot in Cleveland actress - who married Vitale in January 2011 - recalled the "crappy" night the couple had spent before he popped the question.

"He's got this little glint in his eye, and he's lying in the bed next to me. And I'm like, 'I just want to read this magazine. It was a crappy dinner. We're in Italy. It should've been an amazing dinner'," she explained.

"I was really pissed off. I just wanted to read my magazine. And then I closed my eyes, and he puts this little box on my chest."

Bertinelli added that she was also shocked by the price of the ring, saying: "It was from Tiffany's. I said, 'Why did you spend so much money? Why did you go to Tiffany's? You should've gone someplace else with cheaper jewellery'.

"I don't know why he married me."
