Kelly Preston: 'Sheen is a great man'

Kelly Preston has insisted that her former fiancé Charlie Sheen is a good person.

The pair reportedly became engaged to be married in 1990, but split abruptly months later.

Speaking to People, the actress expressed her sympathies to Sheen, who was sacked from the sitcom Two and a Half Men earlier this week.

"My heart just goes out to him and all of his family," she said. "He's such a good person underneath all of it, he really is."

Preston, who is now married to John Travolta, further insisted that Sheen can find "a way back" from his personal struggles, adding that she looks back fondly on her relationship with the actor.

She explained: "We were together for a year, and he wasn't drinking, and he wasn't doing drugs… And there's a beautiful person in there. He really is a great man."

Earlier this week, comedian Russell Brand also offered his support for Sheen by describing him as "a good bloke".
