Zellweger said that even when she began taking on some small film roles, she never imagined that her career would take off the way it has done.
"I never had those thoughts before," she said about her childhood ambitions, according to People. "I moved to LA because I just ran out of things to do."
The actress received her big break as a supporting character in Richard Linklater's cult film Dazed And Confused.
"I felt really lucky to be a gloried extra," Zellweger said of the experience. "I learned so much about... what your responsibilities are as a performer when you are participating in a collaborative effort.
Zellweger made the comments while being inducted into the Texas Film Hall Of Fame this weekend.
