The former Olympic rowing champion fractured his skull in two places last summer when he was hit by the wing mirror of a truck during an endurance race.
He told the Radio Times: "I feel a bit useless. I can't help out. I regret that the injury has had such an effect on everyone.
"[My wife] Bev and I talk about nothing else, which takes the fun out of our relationship. That must be hard for her."
The adventurer further revealed that he has been advised not to be alone with his children in case he leaves potentially dangerous items near them. He has also been told not to drive.
Cracknell is expecting his third child with television presenter Beverley Turner in the next few weeks.
