Speaking to E!, the Parks and Recreation star said that marriage is outmoded, and she is hoping for a new relationship model to emerge.
"Things are changing so much. Especially [in] this country, we have kind of failed with marriage," said Jones, who stars in the new film Monogamy, which centres on an engaged couple dealing with relationship problems.
The 35-year-old added: "We're so protective of this really sacred but failed institution. There's got to be a new model. I don't know what it is, but maybe it's like ten years with a lease to buy or rent to own."
Jones, who will appear in the new Muppets movie, said that she does not believe monogamy works "for everybody".
Monogamy, also starring Chris Messina and Meital Dohan, is now playing in the US in limited release.
Jones recently revealed that she would be open to reprising the role of Karen Filippelli on NBC's The Office.
