The 65-year-old Australian television star, whose 34-year-old actor son Matthew recently re-entered rehab to receive treatment for rumoured psychological problems, is believed to be upset that some members of the public "blame" her for his behaviour.
Matthew was arrested earlier this year after breaking his AVO conditions by trying to get in contact with ex-girlfriend Rachael Taylor, who he allegedly attacked in a Rome hotel last year.
Friends of Patti, who lost her job as the ambassador of Millers Fashion Club as a result of her son's scandal, said that she is devastated by the recent series of events.
A source told Woman's Day magazine: "There's no doubt in her mind that being Matthew's mother cost her the job.
"Patti is crushed, because she adored her work with the company. It got her face back on TV and kept her busy, brightening her life and allowing her little getaways to Sydney to shoot the commercials."
The source also revealed: "People seem to want to blame her mothering skills for Matthew's problems and that is a knife to her heart."
