Bret Michaels has spoken out in defence of controversial actor Charlie Sheen, insisting that he taught the former Two and a Half Men star everything he knows.

The Poison frontman said that he once showed Sheen how to destroy a hotel room a number of years ago, after Sheen said that he wanted to "feel like a rock star".

"I showed him how to destroy a hotel room, and he showed me how to edit and work on film," Michaels told E! News. "It was great."

The singer claimed that he met Sheen through a mutual friend that they had both previously dated, and that the two have been friends ever since.

"I showed him how to lose a lot of money, and he showed me how to make a lot of money, it was fantastic," he added. "Charlie has been nothing but a great friend to me."

Since being fired from his leading role on Two and a Half Men, Sheen has faced a storm of media attention for his increasingly erratic public behaviour.

Sheen also recently announced a further 12 dates for his 'My Violent Torpedo Of Truth/Defeat Is Not An Option' tour, which begins next month.
