Debbie Harry: 'I was a drug addict'

Debbie Harry has admitted that she was "absolutely" addicted to drugs for "a couple of years".

The Blondie singer said that she "tried everything" including heroin during the '80s, reports the Evening Standard.

Asked if she was an addict, Harry replied: "Absolutely. I guess for a couple of years.

"It was depression… our record company dropped us, our manager walked out, the Internal Revenue Service walked in. Everything fell apart and I fell apart along with it. But ice cream was great."

The singer explained how she went to rehab with her then boyfriend, Blondie guitarist Chris Stein.

"Chris did it at the same time," she said. "We did it together. I think we both decided that it was overdue."

Harry added that she barely even touches alcohol nowadays.

"I don't have the head for alcohol," she said. "I don't have the capacity. So, if I drink it's a short evening - very short and very cheap!"
