Ashley Olsen 'grew tired of acting career'

Ashley Olsen has disclosed that she gave up her acting career following her starring role in 2004's New York Minute because she no longer felt a connection to the profession.

Vogue quotes Ashley, who starred in more then a dozen straight-to-video films with twin sister Mary-Kate, as saying that she needed to expand her horizons after spending most of her formative years in front of the camera.

"I am so proud of what we did [with our films]," she said.

The star added: "We made kids smile every day. But we had done the most we could do."

The Olsen twins made their television debuts at just 9 months old, portraying baby Michelle Tanner on the ABC sitcom Full House. They continued in the role until the sitcom's cancellation in 1996.

After spending most of her life in the public eye, Ashley contends that press in New York City treat celebrities better than the LA paparazzi.

"The press here in New York respect you more," she added. "It was the worst in Los Angeles when we got our [driving] license[s]. They would follow us. They knew where we lived. And you don't know who these people are. People just out of jail."

The former Full House star recently ended her three-year relationship with Hangover actor Justin Bartha.

The Olsen sisters recently insisted that they take the fashion industry very seriously.
