The 'Yeah 3x' star had been appearing on the ABC morning show when he apparently became upset at questions surrounding his assault on ex-girlfriend Rihanna.
A video report on this morning's GMA confirmed that Brown "became very angry backstage at the studios" after the topic of conversation "touched a nerve".
"Any time we have a guest on the programme we let them know ahead of time the subject matter and topics we are going to discuss," added Roberts, who previously interviewed Brown after his conviction.
"Even right before the interview, I said that to Chris. I was shocked like everybody else. We've had a wonderful relationship... You saw me laughing during the interview because I thought he was joking about some of the things because of the easy relationship we have."
She went on to say that the show has extended an invitation for Brown to return in the future, adding: "We would love to have him back and I know he is seriously considering that."
Brown is currently promoting his new album F.A.M.E., which is available now. He is also scheduled to perform on next week's Dancing with the Stars results show.
