Michael Lohan charged with domestic violence

Michael Lohan has been charged with misdemeanour domestic violence following his arrest on Monday.

Lindsay Lohan's father was taken into custody in Los Angeles following an alleged altercation with a woman believed to be his live-in girlfriend.

The 50-year-old was charged with corporal injury to a cohabitant, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Michael, who separated from Lindsay's mother Dina in 2005, is expected to appear in Beverly Hills Superior Court on May 23 for his arraignment hearing.

It was previously claimed that Michael, who is reportedly in talks to star in Celebrity Rehab, was accused of holding the unnamed woman against her will and preventing her from calling the authorities.

The woman's attorneys said that she suffered minor injuries after Michael physically assaulted her.

If convicted, Michael could face a maximum sentence of one year behind bars.
