During an appearance on Piers Morgan Tonight, the 77-year-old talkshow host insisted that Taylor's legacy as one of the greatest stars in the history of Hollywood cinema cannot not be matched by any of today's stars.
"There's no-one who could step into her shoes," King insisted.
He continued: "I couldn't think of anyone in the film industry today who could sadly pass away… who would have the attention she is getting [right now] around the world."
King also described the Suddenly Last Summer actress as one of the most intriguing and engaging guests that he ever interviewed on his long-running series Larry King Live.
"She was a great interview because she gave you what you wanted," he said. "She knew how to respond."
Since Taylor's passing on Wednesday from congestive heart failure, she has received tributes from stars around the world, including Barbara Walters, Madonna, Barry Manilow and Simon Cowell.
