Wyclef Jean has revealed that he felt "shock and awe" after being shot last week in Haiti.

It was previously reported that the 'Gone Till November' singer was struck by a bullet in his right hand and briefly hospitalised during his pre-election trip to the country.

Jean has now told People that medical professionals were quick to provide assistance after the shooting occurred.

"They put in the anesthesia and stuff," the former Haiti presidential candidate said. "The pain came after all that."

He added: "It was definitely a graze… The bullet didn't go in or anything."

The musician went on to downplay his own injury, asserting that it was relatively unimportant compared to elections which occurred on March 20.

"The story is about the fact that we had an election and our party is in the lead," he remarked.

Jean attempted to launch his own presidential bid as a member of the Live Together party last year, but eventually bowed out of the race after being disqualified by the Provincial Electoral Council because he hadn't resided in Haiti for the required five years.
