While appearing on Piers Morgan Tonight, the former Saturday Night Live star was questioned as to whether she believes that she is beloved by Americans.
"I'm popular for a Jew," Silverman responded.
She continued: "It's 100% true. If there's one thing we should realise it's, in general, the world hates Jews. But it's nice to be an underdog, I guess."
Silverman went on to claim that Jews are only defended by the press and the general public when they are vilified in the most heinous of ways.
"There is outrage," she said. "There's nobody who likes blatant anti-Semitism more than Jews because it's something you can point to [in order to prove discrimination is occurring]. It's not just a gas in the air anymore."
The comedian recently claimed that she embarrassed herself while meeting with US President Barack Obama.
Piers Morgan Tonight airs weeknights at 9pm ET on CNN and at 8pm GMT on CNN International.
