The Babyshambles singer faced the charge at London's Snaresbrook Crown Court following a January 2010 inquiry into the death of 27-year-old filmaker Robyn Whitehead, who had been making a documentary about Doherty prior to her passing.
Doherty was granted unconditional bail and ordered to return for sentencing on May 20, the BBC reports.
Judge David Radford warned the singer that his "unattractive" criminal record could result in him being sent to jail for a third time at the upcoming hearing.
Doherty was arrested in the probe along with friends Peter Wolfe, who admitted to possessing cocaine and supplying the drug to Whitehead, and Alan Wass, who pleaded not guilty to a possession charge.
Wass is due to be sentenced along with Doherty.
The trio unsuccessfully petitioned for the case to be thrown out of court in January, while Doherty had denied cocaine possession at a previous preliminary hearing.
