'Idol' star Jason Castro to become dad

Former American Idol contestant Jason Castro has announced that he will soon become a father for the first time.

The 24-year-old was a finalist on the seventh season of American Idol, and has revealed that he is expecting a baby girl this August.

"Now, I am excited to announce that there will be a new addition to the Castro family!" Castro wrote on his official blog on Friday. "My wife and I are expecting our first child this August."

"We just found out yesterday that it is going to be a girl!" the singer continued. "Haha, that makes me laugh, what am I going to do with a sweet little girl?"

"Probably just smile a lot," he added. "I cannot wait!"

Castro married girlfriend Mandy Mayhall in January 2010, and the couple now reside in Dallas.

Castro released his second album Who I Am in November last year.
