Duhamel was given the 'Red Cross Spirit Award' last weekend, having raised money for victims of the Haiti earthquake and organised a run to provide aid for Japan.
The Black Eyed Peas singer told Entertainment Weekly: "I'm so proud, because a few tragedies have happened and Josh just got up and had this idea to create a run. It's really attractive that my husband thinks of these things."
Duhamel joked that the couple had been invited to the Red Cross's annual fundraiser because they had spent so much the previous year.
"I think it might be because my wife spent so much money at the auction last year that they invited us back," he said. "They needed an excuse so they gave me an award!"
He also highlighted the troubles in Japan, saying: "There's usually a media blitz at the beginning with something like this and then they go on to the next thing. Right now Japan is really hurting and I think that people should remember that."
Fergie and Duhamel married in 2009, and renewed their vows the following year.
