Common launches charity donation competition

Common has launched a donation drive for his Common Ground Foundation charity.

In collaboration with Tonic.com, the rapper announced the drive in the hope of raising $50,000 for the organisation, which aims to help disadvantaged youths overcome adversity to achieve their goals.

He has also offered fans the opportunity to get involved by entering those who contribute into prize draws for different items depending on the amount donated. Prizes range from autographed photos, a phone call from Common and a chance to join Common in the studio during the recording of his new album.

"Our foundation has grown over the years, and is very dear to my heart just as much as my career," he said in a statement. "One of the things I always say to people is to 'strive for greatness in any and everything you do', and the women we are honouring represent that and so much more."

The competition will run until April 16.
