The Law & Order: Special Victims Unit actor appears in the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) new video, which supports reform of the law to allow lesbians and gay New Yorkers to marry.
"I believe in love, in family and in fairness. That's why I'm a New Yorker for marriage equality," he says in the clip.
"Already, five states and the District of Columbia have marriage equality. It's time for New York to lead again. Join me in supporting New Yorkers for Marriage Equality."
Meloni was recently rumoured to be leaving SVU, though producers later denied the reports.
Other celebrities who have recorded videos for the campaign include musician Moby, actors Ethan Hawke, Mark Ruffalo and John Slattery, comedienne Joan Rivers, music mogul and entrepreneur Russell Simmons and Charlie's Angels star Lucy Liu, who said in her message that New York "has always been about diversity and acceptance".
