During an interview on Piers Morgan Tonight, the View co-host was questioned by the CNN presenter as to whether she married for love.
"No, I don't think so," Goldberg replied. "I wanted to feel normal."
She continued: "It seemed to be that if I was married I'd have a much more normal life. Clearly that's not the case. That's not a good reason to get married. You have to actually want a life with someone through ups and downs. I just discovered that wasn't for me."
The star wed first husband Alvin Martin at just 18 years old and later was briefly married to cinematographer David Claessen in the 1980s. Goldberg's third marriage, to Lyle Trachtenberg, broke up in 1995 just one year after the pair exchanged wedding vows.
In March, the comedian revealed that she smoked marijuana before accepting the 1992 'Best Supporting Actress' Academy Award.
Piers Morgan Tonight airs weeknights at 9pm ET on CNN and at 8pm GMT on CNN International.
