Lauren Conrad launches beauty website

Lauren Conrad has launched her own fashion and beauty website.

The Beauty Department features make-up and hair tips and advice and aims to aid young girls in replicating celebrity looks for less money from the comfort of their own homes.

"Growing up, I never really learned how to do my hair and makeup correctly and the results weren't always great," the former Hills star said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Our goal with The Beauty Department is to provide girls and young women with a basic how-to of simplified versions of popular trends and styles that they can recreate themselves."

An announcement on the site's front page also invites readers to e-mail their beauty-related questions and promises to cover "all kinds of hair+makeup how-to's, nail trends, skin issues, tools, current obsessions & inspirations".

The launch of The Beauty Department comes just months after MTV announced that it would not air her reality show which focused on her busy career.

Conrad recently signed a three-book deal for a fictional series following her Madison Parker character.
