Tim Robbins parents die within days of each other

Tim Robbins's mother Mary has died of heart arrhythmia just 12 days after the actor's father passed away.

The Green Lantern star, who split with longtime partner Susan Sarandon in 2009, has confirmed to The AP that his dad Gil succumbed to an undisclosed illness earlier this month, while his musician mother died on Sunday at her Esteban Cantu, Mexico home.

"[Mary] had a calm and cheerful demeanour, a sharp wit, a gentle spirit and a generous and loving heart," Robbins said of his family's matriarch.

His mother had been a musician during the height of the folk movement's popularity and even performed at New York City's famed Gaslight Café, a venue where Bob Dylan frequently gigged prior to the release of his first album in 1962.

Late in life, Mary obtained a bachelor's degree in holistic nutrition and volunteered in Mexican medical clinics to aid the local population.

Mary and Gil Robbins are survived by Tim and his three siblings as well as their four grandchildren.
