The actress spent five days in Connecticut's Silver Hill Hospital receiving treatment and later relaxed with her parents and daughter Carys in a village close to her holiday home.
In a joint interview with his wife, Douglas told People magazine: "It takes a lot of courage to seek help and I am proud of Catherine for doing something positive about her situation."
He added: "It's onwards and upwards for us."
Zeta-Jones called on fellow sufferers to seek help, insisting that if her public battle had encouraged anyone not to "suffer silently", "then it is worth it".
"This is a disorder that affects millions of people and I am one of them," she added.
