The Lincoln Lawyer star, who first achieved fame in 1992 playing US daytime's first gay teen on axed soap One Life To Live, admitted to growing weary of life in the spotlight.
He told Page Six: "It's so hard to go out in LA. I'm going to move. I'm going to spend a third of my year in New York.
"I think I'm going to end my acting career. I'm so introverted. I'm ready to be behind-the-scenes. I'm 36, but I've been doing this for 20 years."
Phillippe, who recently hit headlines after an ex-lover claimed to be pregnant with his child, explained that his negative portrayal in the media has provided further motivation to quit showbusiness.
He insisted: "I'm a good guy. I'm not that guy you read about."
Phillippe recently said that he struggles to explain fame to his children with ex-wife Reese Witherspoon.
