The couple announced in January that they are excepting a child together, but Hudson later denied that she and the musician would tie the knot.
While appearing on NBC's Today Show to promote Something Borrowed, journalist Matt Lauer questioned Hudson about her relationship status after noticing that she was wearing what appeared to be a diamond engagement ring.
"This is new… I'm engaged," she beamed. "It just happened a week ago!"
Despite being pressed for more details by Lauer, Hudson would not reveal the circumstances of Bellamy's proposal, but did indicate that the couple will not rush into marrying.
"Matt Bellamy [is] a beautiful man and we're just going to sort of sit in to the baby thing for a little bit and kind of figure [them] out one at a time," the star explained. "[Bellamy's] proposal was very sweet. It was very romantic!"
Hudson was previously married to Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson for seven years, before divorcing in 2007. The actress and Robinson are the parents to one son, Ryder.
Bellamy and Hudson's first child together is due later this year. The actress remarked during her Today interview that she and Bellamy will not learn the sex of the baby before she gives birth, but hinted that she believes the child is a girl.
Something Borrowed is released on May 6 in US and UK cinemas.
