After learning last year that one of his fans, Bobbette Miller, was facing kidney failure and was in dire need of a donor, the Blue Bloods actor took to the social networking website to explain the woman's plight to his fans.
The post resulted in thousands of Wahlberg's followers calling Vanderbilt University Medical Centre in Nashville and eventually six donor matches being located.
Miller is now scheduled to undergo a kidney transplant in June.
Speaking to The Boston Herald, Wahlberg insisted the overwhelming response of those wanting to help Miller proves that Twitter has become a powerful form of communication.
"It's a testament to the value of Twitter when used for more than telling people what one is eating for dinner or using it to sell products by tweeting as an endorser," he said.
Wahlberg is currently scheduled to take part in this summer's co-headlining tour featuring Backstreet Boys and New Kids On The Block.
In the US, his series, Blue Bloods continues with the episode 'All That Glitters' on Friday on CBS.
