The man who attacked Paris Hilton's boyfriend earlier this week has been jailed.

James Rainford, who was already on probation at the time of the incident, grabbed her boyfriend Cy Waits by the neck as he walked into a Superior Court Building with the star earlier this week.

According to TMZ, the judge sentenced Rainford to 227 days in prison after pleading 'no contest' to the charge of misdemeanour battery.

He has reportedly claimed that he is in love with Hilton and has her father's permission to marry her. He has also been arrested in the past for trespassing at the star's home.

After the incident, Hilton took to her Twitter page and described the attack as "scary".

Earlier this week, the socialite's publicist denied claims made by actress Sarah Shahi that Hilton had nearly run her over on a Los Angeles street.

Her ex-boyfriend Brandon Davis was jailed earlier this week after being arrested on charges of battery and possessing drugs.
