Prince William and Kate Middleton have arrived at Clarence House after leaving Buckingham Palace in Prince Charles's Aston Martin.

After they had changed out of their wedding attire, the newlyweds waved at well-wishers while on their way to the royal residence.

The pair were followed by security officers in a dark Range Rover before turning into Stable Yard Road and parking outside Clarence House, the Prince of Wales's home.

A spokesman said: "It was Prince William's idea to drive his new bride away from the official reception on their first journey as a married couple to his family home.

"The Prince of Wales was more than happy to loan the car to the couple for this special journey."

As a surprise for the couple, a fly-past was organised by RAF Wattisham in Suffolk of a yellow Sea King helicopter, in order to recognise the prince's work as a search and rescue pilot.

The pair are believed to be returning to Buckingham Palace later tonight for further celebrations.
