The former heavyweight champion boxer, who appeared as himself in The Hangover, told GQ that he was brought up to believe in his talents.
He explained: "Sometimes I mistake myself for a god because that's what I was told as a kid. I believe you had to think that.
"You know, sometimes it feels good to stroke my own ego."
However, Tyson added that he is working hard on controlling his anger since marrying his third wife Lakiha.
He admitted: "It's very difficult to suppress it. Every now and again it flares up but I suppress it now because I know otherwise it will allow my will to run riot.
"Once that happens I can no longer have a beautiful relationship. I always come to a situation now on my knees, now that I'm married."
This weekend, it was reported that Tyson's trademark facial tattoo has led to a court case which could delay the release of this summer's The Hangover Part II.
