According to Vanity Fair, the trio were in New York when they departed after the events of September 11, 2001.
"These three towering icons of American pop culture planned their escape, afraid that they would be the next target," the reporter wrote. "Unable to fly, they drove out of the city.
"Brando allegedly annoyed his travelling companions by insisting on stopping at nearly every KFC and Burger King they passed along the highway."
A former employee of Jackson also claimed: "They actually got as far as Ohio - all three of them, in a car they drove themselves!"
However, Taylor, Jackson and Brando have all since passed away and are unable to confirm or deny the alleged trip.
Brando died in July 2004 aged 80, while Jackson passed away in June 2009 weeks before he was due to start his comeback tour. In March, Taylor died of congestive heart failure.
A former assistant to Taylor denied the story was true and insisted: "Elizabeth stayed behind where she went to a church to pray. She [also] went to an armoury where [there were] people who couldn't get home or who'd stayed behind to look for the missing.
"Eventually, the airports opened and she flew home."
