The Bridesmaids actress and the There Will Be Blood filmmaker are parents to two daughters, Pearl Minnie and Lucille, and it was announced in March that the couple are to welcome another addition to their family.
Speaking to Access Hollywood, Rudolph noted that it can sometimes be difficult to develop a personal connection to the child until it is born.
"I'm excited… The exciting part is not knowing who's coming," she said.
The star further explained that the joy of seeing one's child for the very first time is unlike any other experience.
"You have to wait nine months for a surprise, but then it's a good payoff because it really is a surprise. The sonograms don't help, because you always try to see the baby's face, and my babies usually do this in all their ultrasounds," Rudolph added as she adopted a pained expression.
Rudolph will next star with Kristen Wiig and Rose Byrne in the Judd Apatow-produced comedy Bridesmaids, which is released on May 13 in US cinemas and on June 24 in the UK.
