Swift released the third single from her album Speak Now in March, and more recently released an accompanying music video featuring an anti-bullying message.
"We wanted to make something stunning while still getting the point across," Whitebloom explained to MTV News. "She's an incredible creative and visual person."
The video showcases its message of teen empowerment by following a number of bullied characters who eventually go on to outshine their tormentors in various ways.
"It's her idea to bring her band [into the music video], and it really shows her authenticity as a performer and not just a one-note person," Whitebloom said regarding Swift's input.
Swift was recently linked to Country Strong star Garret Hedlund after the two were spotted out together at dinner.
"I think because Taylor is so timeless in a way, her look, she really embodies that sort of 1920s, 1930s look so well," Whitebloom added. "She is absolutely flawless and gorgeous."
'Mean' became the singer's 13th single to hit the Hot Country Songs top ten, making Swift equal only to Carrie Underwood in having the most consecutive top ten hits in the chart's history.
