Rachel McAdams, Michael Sheen reveal romance

Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen have stepped out in public together as a couple for the first time.

The actors - who were first reported to be dating in October 2010 - appeared together at a red carpet event at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday evening.

"She's a genuinely lovely lady as well as being stunningly beautiful and very talented," Sheen told Entertainment Tonight Canada in reference to McAdams.

The pair were introduced last year while working together on Woody Allen's Midnight In Paris, which made its debut at the festival.

McAdams recently confessed that she often worried in the past that she would never be able to find true love.

She previously dated and became engaged to The Notebook co-star Ryan Gosling, though they split after three years together in 2007.

McAdams will soon be seen in an untitled Terence Malick film and will reprise her role as Irene Adler in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.
