Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has announced the arrival of his first child on the band's official web site.
The singer's wife, Jordyn Blum, delivered a baby girl last Saturday, and both are said to be doing well.
Choosing the name Violet Maye after his grandmother, Grohl described his newborn as "just perfect".
After missing out on a Grammy award last year, the former Nirvana member joked, "I don't need Grammys anymore, baby! I'm retiring. I'm going to write a children's book. Isn't that what you're supposed to do when you have kids? Or form a kid's band."
The imminent arrival of the baby has kept the Foo Fighters from touring since February.
