The Pearl Harbour actor insisted that most of the claims he reads about his personal life are completely untrue, but added that he has accepted it as part of the industry.
"Ninety-five per cent of the rumours are false and I just laugh," Hartnett said, according to Starpulse. "It's funny how they connect you to everyone in the room."
Referring to a recent story, Hartnett added: "They called me a Hollywood cad! I think it's fantastic, having been in two real relationships in my life."
Hartnett said he is never surprised that magazines make up stories about his personal life, but claimed that he tries to stay out of that world as much as possible.
"The more you stay out of the spotlight, the more believable you are as an actor," he added.
In the past, Hartnett has been linked to a wide range of stars including Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller and Rihanna.
