Sarkozy father confirms Carla Bruni pregnancy?

Carla Bruni's father-in-law has apparently confirmed that the French First Lady and the country's president Nicolas Sarkozy are expecting their first child together.

Speculation over Bruni's possible pregnancy increased after she pulled of a scheduled appearance at the 64th annual Cannes Film Festival last week at late notice.

Speaking to the German publication BILD, Sarkozy's father Pal seemed to validate the pregnancy rumours by claiming that he was "looking forward to [his] grandkid".

He continued: "Both of them don't want to know the gender of the baby, but I am sure it will be a girl and as pretty as Carla."

No official confirmation has yet come from the French First Lady or her husband

Bruni does have one young son, Aurélien, from a prior relationship. The French president is father to three sons from his previous marriages to Marie-Dominique Culioli and Cécilia Ciganer-Albéniz.

Sarkozy and Bruni met just once month after the politician split from his second wife Ciganer-Albéniz. They tied the knot in 2008 at Élysée Palace.
