The actress, who is best known for playing Samantha Jones in the Sex and the City TV series and movies, said that she is enjoying being in control of her own life professionally and personally at the moment.
Cattrall told E! Online: "I'm having such a good time being footloose and fancy free and not having to check in and say, 'Is it okay if I do this or do that?' There's no mom and pop standing over me. I enjoy that."
In response to rumours of a third Sex and the City movie, she added: "I have no idea. I hear more prequel than sequel."
Earlier this week, Cattrall's co-star Sarah Jessica Parker said that she believes there is "one more small, important story to tell" in the series. "Whether or not we choose to do that and when we choose to do that remains, obviously, the unknown, but it's nice to ponder," she said.
Gossip Girl actress Blake Lively has been linked to a prequel in which she would play the younger version of Parker's Carrie Bradshaw.
Cattrall also revealed that she is currently "dating... getting out there", saying: "It's scary but also it's exciting. It's both of those things. It's a tight rope, you know? It's feeling like you're 14 again, which you kind of like when you're 54."
On Monday, she was presented with a Golden Gate award from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. The prize has formally been given to Megan Mullally and Brooke Shields.
