While filming the 2009 episode 'Hardwired', Perez suffered herniated discs in her neck, following which she required two surgeries and is still unable to work properly.
The actress claimed that producers recklessly allowed an untrained extra to forcibly shake her as part of the scene in question.
"This is a case of a woman being severely injured because someone wasn't taking care of the people who work for them, and we're going to make them pay," the actress's lawyer told The New York Post.
"This person was not a stuntman, he was just an extra. [The producers] recklessly and carelessly failed to provide skilled performers or experienced stunt personnel."
Perez first rose to fame in Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing and was nominated for an Academy Award following her role in Fearless.
Representatives for Law & Order have yet to respond to the lawsuit.
