The actor caused controversy after describing the city as a "s**thole" and "socially disgusting" during a recent interview with VMAN Magazine.
However, the Beastly star has since told E Online that he is fond of LA despite his comments.
"I love New York. I love LA, too. I love both places," he explained. "I don't think I was so much misquoted but misunderstood."
In the original interview, the actor was also quoted as saying that he didn't "really give a s**t" about attending industry events, adding that he was unable to offer interesting stories about Los Angeles as "mostly, I just do my work and go home".
Pettyfer was recently cast as Channing Tatum in Steven Soderbergh's Magic Mike biopic.
He has been nominated in the 'Best Badass Star' category at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards for his role in I Am Number Four.
