The 94-year-old actress slipped into a coma after undergoing emergency stomach surgery in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
Although Gabor remains unresponsive and her condition shows no sign of improvement, Anhalt stated that he was not ready to give up on his wife of 25 years.
He told Germany's Bunte Magazine: "I would never say, 'Shutdown!' It was 25 years ago that we promised each other that we will take care of each other - till the end. But what shall I do? I don't know what she wants. I can't talk to her, I just can hope that this all is right.
"[Doctors] asked me, 'What shall we do? Minimum treatment, medium or maximum? Do you want your wife to live on?' And I look like an idiot and say, 'Of course we give her the right treatment because I can't just decide over her life'."
Gabor has been hospitalised numerous times over the last year, most recently after experiencing the symptoms of pneumonia earlier this month.
In January she had part of her right leg amputated after developing a potentially life-threatening blood clot.
Anhalt previously claimed that he and Gabor were seeking a surrogate mother to carry their first child together.
