Salma Hayek has said that she does not get hurt by racist remarks.

The Mexican actress suggested to The Sunday Times that she has missed out on roles because of her background.

Hayek said: "I've always been a little bit different. It's never hurt me. It makes me feel a little bit embarrassed for the person - like, 'Whoah, you're stupid'.

"But yes, a lot of times I didn't get movies because of my accent or because I'm Mexican. Many times the idiots are in power. What are you going to do?"

Last year, Hayek revealed that she came to America as an illegal immigrant "for a small period of time".

She added that she "had to endure the worst time of all in terms of racial discrimination in Hollywood" when she started her US acting career.
