Johnny Depp: 'Marriage isn't necessary'

Johnny Depp has revealed that he considers his greatest achievement to be meeting his partner Vanessa Paradis.

The Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides actor spoke to OK! Magazine about his relationship with the model and entertainer, declaring that he has no plans to get married in the near future.

"It doesn't seem necessary for us," said Depp of marriage. "Others may want to go down that road - we don't."

The 47-year-old went on to declare that his most celebrated accomplishment is meeting Paradis.

"If you call meeting Vanessa an 'achievement,' it was certainly that," said Depp when asked what his greatest accomplishment is. "It came at the right time. We were both ready for children, and she's given me Lily Rose, who is now 11 years old, and Jack, who's 9."

Depp continued: "I saw Vanessa across a room - and I first saw only her back! But I immediately thought, 'That's the woman for me.' That was nearly 12 years ago."

The fourth instalment in the Pirates franchise scored the highest US opening of 2011 over this past weekend, earning $90.1 million (£56m).

Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently revealed that Depp and his Stranger Tides co-star Penelope Cruz have great chemistry.
